Another Ticket..This Sucks!!!

I am terrified of being pulled over, like many other people. When a cop gets behind me I look in my rear view mirror more than I look at the road in front of me. I know this is normal for a lot of people, but I haven't always been like this.

Last March I got my first ticket. I was driving on a two lane highway and there was a car in front of me with a mattress on top driving under the speed limit. As usual, I was in a hurry and I went around them. It was a perfectly legitimate pass. I waited until no cars were coming and the yellow line was dotted on my side. When I pass someone I usually do it as fast as possible because it can be uncomfortable to be on the wrong side of the road. Little did I know there were a couple of cops up ahead waiting for a speeding car to go by.

Well I got clocked while I was passing the car. How messed up is that? Honestly, who doesn't speed when you do this? I'm pretty sure everyone who does this wants to get around the car as quick as they can. That seems like the safest thing to do anyways. I honestly didn't know they would give you a ticket for speeding when passing a car like this. But he claimed that he could. This seems a little unfair to me. I sped up to about ten over, and when I got back over I slowed back down. Anyways I got my first ticket that night and was not very happy about it at all.

I have finally decided that I have bad luck with cops. I got pulled over again two weekends ago on highway 52. This time I can see why I got pulled over. I was doing 77 in a 60. I honestly didn't think I was going to get a ticket because the police officer was being so cool about it at first. He spent the first ten minutes talking about sports, and how he liked my car, and he even joked around about me being on my way to see my girlfriend. But when he came back to my car he had a ticket in his hand. I was extremely let down, because I think I said "please don't give me a ticket" about 200 times while I was waiting for him to come back to my window. And well, the rest is history. I now owe Tippecanoe county 130 dollars.

Now this one I could not believe. Last weekend I was on my way back here to Purdue. I had just left my girlfriend's house and turned on to the main highway and as I did I saw a cop going the opposite direction I was going to go. This reminded me to drive the speed limit. Next thing I knew I had flashing lights in my mirror. I was confused because I didn't do anything wrong that I knew of. Well he claimed that I had a headlight out. I told him to take another look and he did. Sure enough I didn't and he let me go on my way. I just thought it was ironic to get pulled over for nothing a week after getting a ticket. So OK, they win.... I will drive the speed limit!

I am always terrified of getting pulled over. I was with my sister once when she was going a little too fast. I saw the cop and tried to warn her, but it was too late. We got stopped. Luckily it was our neighbor, and he just told us to slow down and go on our way. Because of this, I always try to go the speed limit. People make fun of me when I say this, but I don't really care. They aren't the ones who will have to pay for the ticket. I am, and I would have to explain it to my parents. I'm not sure which would be worse.

Ya i have been pulled over before but i havent got a ticket yet luckily. Its pretty intimidating with the loud noises and flashing lights. It is kind a pain in the ass when the cop trys to act like he owns you. When people get pulled over when no one else is around is just stupid because your not endangering anyone but yourself. I think that the law shouldnt protect you from yourself unless you have a psychological condition of some type. Just wierd how they tell you how and what to do, but what can ya do?

Yes I think that everyone has those feelings. I've been pulled over once because my passenger didn't have a seatbelt on. I didn't get in trouble, which was good.I would've been ticked if I got a ticket for her negligence. I'm so sorry you had it twice in the space of a week! It is definitely a nerve racking experience.
I think its easy to think the police pick on us when in reality they're just doing their jobs. I just remind myself to keep to the speed limit, drive responisbly, and I won't have to worry about the police. But, it is easy to just watch them and hope they don't follow you.

I am the same way when a see a cop. I have never been pulled over, but if I did I would probably not know how to handle myself. Even though I have no bad experiences with the cops, whenever I see them I always slow down and normally start shaking. I try my best to drive the speed limit and to avoid any confrontations. You presented this well and it was interesting to read due to the personal aspect of the article. I feel like this is something that everyone can relate to whether they have been pulled over or not.

The police is kinda like a bee, unless you smack it they really won't sting you. On a second thought, maybe its time to invest in a radar detector. :-). Also, just a tid bit on anyone being pulled over, when they ask you how fast you were driving never answer, ask them. When you tell a police officer how fast you were going you are self incriminating yourself, making their job very very easy. If they do give you a ticket, NEVER sign it, this admits to you being guilty. 75 in 55, no ticket, verbal warning!

Also, there are things that may allow your case to be dismissed are things such as their radar being calibrated and in good working condition as well as some states require officers to be certified to use them. So in most cases, going to court may allow for negotiating. If all else fails, befriend a cop, and get a nice sticker for example a window sticker for the Indiana State Police. P.S. most cops won’t pull you over for less than 5 over too, unless their are a fat head. Sorry to hear about your luck though
